Natural product review: Bentley Organic Revitalising Handwash with Cinnamon, Sweet Orange & Clove Bud
250g for £3.06 upwards (prices vary depending on merchant)
Review by: Alexa Williamson
Rating: ****1/2 (out of 5)

Well, this handwash is quite excellent in most respects. The only thing that you might want it to do more of is moisturise. But, if you want a great handwash that smells nice, isn’t too harsh or drying on the hands, is natural, is in pretty packaging and also lasts a long time (you only need a little to get a good lather to wash your hands properly), then look no further! And, it is also a good price for the quality of the product and amount of handwash that you get!

This product is by Bentley Organic and has the great stuff mentioned with the cinnamon, sweet orange and clove bud. Plus: they have other exciting handwashes, they are a fairly big size of 250ml and they last a long time. I would indeed buy this again and also their other products. Good quality all around!

Natural product review: Absolute Aromas Lemon Natural Room Spray
Current price: £4.99 for 1 oz (ie 30 ml)
Review by: Alexa Williamson
Rating: ***** (out of 5)

I don’t feel like being twee over a room spray and saying lots of pretty, frilly things so instead will be to the point.

If your house has a funny smell or you are a creative person who likes different smells in your environment, then this is a great product. To be honest, I only like the lemon by them and will not say the other scents are great. The lemon scent is light, natural and zesty! Beautiful stuff. It is a light smell and non-chemical. So, you will get  a nice smell without nasty chemicals that are false, man-made scents. Cheap air fresheners are usually worse than what you are trying to cover and you can get a horrific “build-up” smell. (You can find this when you enter somewhere that isn’t very nice).

So if you want something for a fair and relatively inexpensive price that will last awhile (you don’t need to spray much of this), but has a great scent and beats a lot of even the things you will get at fancy department stores (and more) that include a host of chemicals and alcohol in them, then look no further!

Generally, you will find the Absolute Aromas either online or at a health food shop. A good buy. Also comes in a pretty dark blue glass bottle and has an easy-to-use spray top.

Food review/Natural organic products review: Vianesse Shakes from GCFC
Official site
GCFC Shakes
Rating: ***** (out of 5)
Review by: Alexa Williamson

For those who want a great protein product to give them energy, then look no further than these great shakes that are mostly Lactoalbumin protein with NO sugar in them.  These are excellent for people who have sugar problems, candida, want to lose weight and the like as they help one to keep their blood sugar levels normal.

Besides being an excellent source of protein and thus amino acids, they also are an excellent source of B Vitamins.

GCFC shakes are extremely speedy with delivery and kind, patient and considerate with customer service. A bottle of shakes costs £30.99 per bottle (including postage), which may seem like a lot of money, but it is 300g – a large amount and not only are these high quality but they also are easily digestible for those who have weak livers/bad guts. Plus, they seriously help the body to detoxify.

For those who are looking for a convenient, safety-conscious (ie who use virtually organic colours if you request it) central hair salon in London’s West End, which offers great colours and cuts at reasonable prices, then look no further than Jigami.

Having decided to avoid as many hair colour chemicals as possible when getting my latest highlights, and after surfing around the web for organic hair salons in London, I was lucky enough to come across Jigami.

Using a seaweed-based lightener, by Organic & Mineral Research, to achieve blond tones (instead of standard bleach) and also colours, that are “95% water and contain no peroxide, resorcinol, ammonia or mercury“, plus patiently answering all my questions about the products before booking the appointment, they intrigued me enough to trust* them do my hair.

Upon arrival, I was met by a nice stylist named Sarah who did a colour consultation with me and my trim. I liked her as she, similar to the staff who answered the phone, was very patient and good at what she did. After being offered a beverage, Sarah chatted to me about the colours we could use and then got down to work. The atmosphere of the salon is humble and pleasant with spotlighting, a large window out front, and wooden floors. It also doesn’t smell of chemicals as the products they use are virtually fume-free.

Opting for a half-head of highlights, Sarah said that she used to work with Aveda products (which also contain less chemicals than a lot of other brands), but even those used to make her eyes run. However, she never had a problem with the Organic & Mineral Research Colours.

The whole process to get my hair coloured and cut took about 2.5 hours and I was, overall, pleased with the results as my hair came out a gorgeous golden blond. I rate Sarah’s work as good and would go back to her again. However, it wasn’t as impressive as the work at Rush in Camden as they got exactly the colours I wanted first time round. However, they use chemical products.

I had asked Sarah to use at least two colours for the highlights. However, only one was used. (Rush knew to use two without my asking – and they matched the colours perfectly without my asking). The cut was also a bit average, yet I still like it. I say this, as a few weeks earlier, I had gotten a trim to my bob that had given me an excellent flair with some loose layers. This time my bob was nice, but not as sexy as my previous trim.

Yet, I still think that she could do an excellent cut with a bit more input from me next time (although I did mention what I wanted before she started snipping).

* If you’re a bit vain like me (and have had your hair turned orange or white when you asked for blond), you’ll know that switching hairdresser is a big step.

Natural product review: Weleda Salt Toothpaste
Rating: 0 (out of *****)
Review by: Alexa Williamson

In a pinch, I picked this up as an alternative to the typical flouride toothpastes one can buy, such as Colgate. However, I found it very disgusting tasting and was also upset that it contained alcohol. I cannot recommend it in the slightest and would rather take my chance with one containing flouride. Cannot recommend this whatsoever.

Natural product review: Giovanni Smooth as Silk Deeper Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner
Rating: **** 1/2 (out of 5)
Review by: Alexa Williamson

If you are looking for some great (mainly) organic haircare products, then look no further than these. Having seen these at Fresh & Wild in Camden and thought they smelled nice, I took a chance on these and must admit, they are gorgeous. Not only do they smell nice and citrusy – these two like ‘valencia orange’ – they also do exactly what they promise to.

With both of these products being for damaged hair, not only do they control frizz and provide moisture, they also make your dry, coloured or damaged hair look shiny and truly silky.

Containing a lot of organic essential oils and plant extracts such as rosemary, valencia orange, mango, lemongrass, echinacea and lavender, they are excellent quality, particularly for the price – 250ml for £7.45.

Although they do contain alcohol and some other chemicals, they are last in the list (compared with typical shampoos and conditioners stocked at the chemist’s – where these ingredients come first.)

A highly recommended set for most.

Natural product review: Lavera Basis Sensitiv Handcreme
Rating: ** (out of 5)
Review by: Alexa Williamson

Having used a Lavera product before, I was hoping that this would be excellent. However, I didn’t find it to be very nice, and i had an unpleasant smell due, likely, to the caprylic acid and also soyabean oil in it. It conditions the skin, however this is a light cream that wears off fast. Spreads fairly well, although not the best I’ve ever used.

Not recommended as there are better products on the market. Will do in a pinch. Although this product is billed as natural, sadly, it has alcohol in it.

Natural product review: Naturally Me Body Polish
Rating: *** (out of 5)
I wasn’t sure what to make of the Naturally Me Body Polish when I first opened it as it looked like a solid ball. However, as soon as I squeezed it, it crumbled. I then used it, bit by bit, to rub it all over my skin and the result was a really nice, gentle exfoliation, which left my skin feeling nice, soft and glowing.

Natural product review: Naturally Me Body Butter
Rating: **** (out of 5)

At first I thought the Naturally Me Body Butter would be similar to pure cocoa butter as it looked very hard but it scooped out very easily and has a nice subtle smell in comparison. However, although it has more of a solid texture to it than lotions, it wasn’t hard or so rich that it took ages rub in. I would describe it as a rich, mousy texture. It was gorgeous and just seemed to melt onto the skin leaving it nice and silky soft.
